Our goal
-
To rescue, take in, rehabilitate and care for all exotic birds, especially parrots and to provide them with a secure home for the rest of their lives. All these animals come from private persons and will all be taken in no matter whether they are healthy, ill, large, small, rare or very common.
-
To offer refuge and care to all the birds that are seized by judicial authorities, Customs, AID (Fish and Wildlife Management Dutch equivalent), LID (National Intelligence Service), RVV (National Inspection Service for Livestock and Meat), etc. We will continue to do so until the Dutch Ministry of Justice decides what should happen with these animals. In case the Dutch Ministry of Justice decides to impound the animals we will consult with the Ministry and look for a new home for the animals. There are several options. Some animals will find a permanent home in our parrot park or are placed in other birdparks or zoos elsewhere in the world. Occasionally we place animals in the care of private bird lovers, who can offer excellent care. This means that they will not end up in a cage in a living room but always in spacious aviaries, which is similar to their natural habitat.
-
To make sure that the birds will never be used for trade or animal testing again.
-
To make people aware of the consequences of buying an exotic bird. Not only for the prospective owner, but also for the bird and it's surroundings (i.e. neighbours and home environment requirements). To offer people the chance to learn about the possibilities of caring for an exotic bird, before they purchase such a beautiful animal.
-
To offer advice and information to the public, schools, organizations, etc, about:
- how to provide and care for exotic birds;
- how these parrots live in the wild and how they live with people in a civilized environment; -
To set up breeding programs for endangerd bird species.
