Breeding with the birds at the N.O.P.
In principle we do not actively breed with birds that are brought tothe N.O.P.But there is one exception: legislationmakes it mandatory for us to breed with birds that are on list I of CITES.Chicks that are born at the parkmay betransfered to other bird parks or zoos elsewhere in the world. This way they do not have to resort to the parrot trade where birds are traded thatareoften caught in the wild. There is still a brisk trade in animals, which were deviously robbed from the wild.Illegal catches, smuggling practices, fraud with official documents andan often very lugubrious way of transport of animalsare the cause that only one in every three birds survives the transport!
Sometimes webreed with birds that are not on Cites list I. These birds are known to be excellent foster birds and are used to hatch out the eggs from birds on the Cites list. Their own eggsget a good shake or are removed as soon as we notice that they have laid eggs.In casean unexpected and unplannedchickis born it is obvious that it willbe allowed to live in the aviary where it was born.
