Quarantine period
Our reception area is cleared several times per week. The caretaker who accepted the parrot will consult with the vet, Drs. H. van der Horst, and put the parrot in one of the quarantine areas. Before the parrot is transferred it will get a complete physical check up:
 |
-
It is our experience that most animals were fed an incomplete diet and therefore they will be given an injection with multi vitamins.
-
Long nails will be clipped.
-
Beaks with small deformities will be smoothed.
-
At the same time will each parrot, larger than a dwarf parrot, be injected with an electronic chip in the pectoral muscle. This does not bother the parrot. This chip enables us to identify every parrot. We use a special electronic sensor. The so called 'European chip', which is 10 mm long and has a diameter of 2 mm has a unique registration number. Everything concerning the parrot like medical data, transfers, etc. will be registered from now on.
-
Drs. H. van der Horst and a caretaker will observe the parrot every day.
-
During the quarantine period the parrot will be weighed at least twice to make sure that it eats the new food that we use. Again all data will be registered. Every week the cages are moved up one quarantine area and everything gets disinfected again.

The quarantine period lasts 8 to 10 weeks.
