The TropiJoy

On Saturday 22nd May, 2004, the TropiJoy was officially opened . With a surface of 40 by 50 meters and a height of 8 meters, it is lavishly decorated and has a real jungle-feel.

Following the trail, you continuously see new things, while you will be amazed by the hundreds of plants and trees and the abundance of animals, walking and flying around. “Like the jungle of Borneo”, is just one of the compliments we received from visitors.

Rondleiding in de TropiJoy

Centrally located in the hall is the childern’s playground, surrounded by a jungle and various footpaths. From the terrace, one can keep an eye on the playing children.

De geweldige speeltuin

The tropical birds freely flying around, like the Bee-eaters, Nightingales, pigeons happily feel at home in this environment. With many nests, with eggs and sometimes young, as a consequence.

Within this jungle some spaces have been cleared. Following the trail, you will find aviaries with remarkable species of parrots. Some enormous Hornbills were given a prominent place here.

Towards the end of the trail you will find a familiar face: our “Ouwe Jan”(“old John”). The ambassador of the park has found here his new home and you can be assured he is most happy!

Upstairs you will find a gallery with bird pens and terrariums for reptiles. With many species of Toucans and other remarkable bird species, like the motmot of South America and Peru’s national symbol, the Quetzal. The reptiles are safely placed in a sturdy terrarium. You will find a variety of snakes, spiders and lizards, as well as the Blue Tongued Skunk, that is, as long as they are not hiding. The terrarium has also been built so as to look like the animals’ natural environment as much as possible.

In the TropiJoy, space has been reserved for educational purposes. Themes as, for example, “Illegal Souvenirs” show you clearly what you may not take home from holiday as a souvenir, such as: coral, ivory and animal and plant parts. Some reception centres are represented in order to inform you about their activities.

On the outside of TropiJoy, aviaries are built for out “rare” parrots.

We do hope that you will come and visit TropiJoy soon and enjoy, like we do, the special jungle atmosphere..
