Our large Aviaries
Within the Parrotpark you will find over 1000 cages and dozens of large aviaries. In the cages outdoors you will find birds which cannot fly, as a result of clipped wings or otherwise.
Hereunder some large aviaries which hold parrots which are well able to fly:
The Giant Aviary
On the 31st May 1997, the largest parrot aviary in the world was opened, covering a surface of an astounding 2500 sq.m. It is so big, it doesn’t even fit on the picture! Visitors may walk through the entire aviary, through a corridor, watching the parrots, happily flying and playing around. One may feed the parrots peanuts.
There are some 600 parrots of 70 different species in this Giant Aviary. Many of the birds, notably the ara’s and the large parakeets flying around like they’ve never known another life! Other birds, not yet accustomed to this life of relative freedom suspiciously sitting in the window frame.
The Giant Flight covers a surface of 80x40m, with a height of 5,5m and is full of trees, branches and treetrunks and other climbing material. The night cages are 3m above ground and are heated. For this reason, the birds need not be caught in winter for transfer to wintercages.
Great Aviaries (4 pieces)
Unique in the Netherlands are the enormous halls of 50x8m in which the parrots can freely fly. It is a great sight to watch the parrots express themselves in these aviaries. In case visitors bring peanuts, the parrots come and carefully pick them out of your hands. Some parrots may even be stroked.
